The oval shape, dark purple colour and mild fruity flavour of Kalamata olives make this olive variety an excellent table olive and therefore a real delicacy. The Kalamata olive is rightly one of the most popular table olives from Greece. The ripe, black Kalamata olives are carefully harvested (usually by hand) and naturally de-bittered directly in a vinegar-salt brine. This is a traditional debittering process. This means that no chemical additives are used. As a result, it takes a little longer, but the quality and flavour are the reward for this effort. After the debittering process, the Kalamata olives are marinated in organic Mani extra virgin olive oil . The Kalamata olives from MANI are not only organic but also certified Naturland Organic & Fair.
The Mani Kalamata olives in olive oil can be used on their own as an appetiser and/or snack as well as in salads, with tzatziki or for hot dishes (e.g. as a pizza topping).
Kalamata olives are very popular due to their nutritional content. They are named after the city (Kalamata) in the Messinia region of the Peloponnese, where they originate and are produced. They are also harvested in the neighbouring areas of Laconia. Their oval shape, dark purple colour and intense flavour are characteristic of these olives. They are carefully picked by hand to avoid possible damage.
When the jar is opened, the olives should always be covered with olive oil. This gives them a long shelf life. Store in a cool and dry place.
