This dry red wine from the Finca Aylés comes from the wine-growing region of Cariñena, not far from Zaragoza (halfway between Madrid and Barcelona). The name of the wine says it all. Unxpected - this wine exceeds expectations. It has been awarded silver at the Mundus Vini Biofach for this reason. On the nose, the fruit of red berries, subtle aromas reminiscent of port wine and some cedar wood. On the palate, incredibly juicy and appealing, beautiful black cherry and subtle bacon and a little pepper in the background. Made from 100% Garnacha.
The Ramón Reula family's wine-growing project began in the 1980s and culminated in the consolidation of various plots of land that had belonged to the so-called Finca Aylés since the Middle Ages. At that time, it became one of the largest private historical estates in Aragon, covering an area of more than 3,200 hectares (equivalent to 7,910 acres) and containing valuable ecological and scenic features.
The Bodega Aylés is located in the wine-growing region of Cariñena, not far from Zaragoza. The 3,200 ha total area is a contiguous biotope, characterised by rocky landscape, gorges and watercourses. The area is listed by the EU as a Natura 2000 bird sanctuary. Federico Ramón Sr. left nothing to chance when he set up the winery. With great meticulousness and on the basis of solid scientific groundwork, he planted the vines only in the best locations. Since 2010, Aylés has been a Pago – the highest site classification in Spain – and thus one of only 15 cru sites. Another requirement is a microclimate that is unique to the region (cooler climate). Vines are grown on (only) 70 ha, of which 47 ha are recognised as Vino de Pago.
Since 2010, the next generation of the Ramón family has been running the business: the siblings Ana, Immaculada and Federico Jr.
