✓ autochthonous grape variety Golden Malagouzia (Malagousia)
☀ from Greece
✓ Vintage 2023
The Golden Malagouzia (Malagousia) from Tzivani bears the simple name Chrysi (Greek Χρυσή (f. sg.), meaning 'the golden one'.
The golden Malagousia produces a very unique, aromatic and special wine. It has tart, herbal notes, which are harmoniously paired with a fine pear flavour. A minimal hint of minerality completes the multi-layered finish. At 12.7 vol%, this Greek organic white wine is right in the average range. Not too heavy and not too light. At a good 8 °C, the golden Malagousia is an excellent accompaniment to Mediterranean grilled poultry or fish.
The Malagouzia (Malagousia) grape variety was thought to have died out in the 20th century until a professor from Greece breathed new life into it in the 1970s. Now the autochthonous Greek grape variety is part of some good Greek winegrowers. This is also the case at the Tzivani winery, which can be described as a treasure trove of rare and original grape varieties. Here you will find classic Greek varieties that make the heart of the wine connoisseur beat faster. Agiorgitiko, Golden Malagouzia or Athiri. These grape varieties are the pride and joy of George and Chrissie Tzivani.
