When you think of Spanish red wine, you most likely think of Tempranillo. A strong, spirited red wine with lots of fruit and pleasant spice. This description applies above all to the Tempranillo from Finca Enguera. A varietal organic red wine from the Valencia region (southwest) of Spain, wonderfully balanced, varietal, with great berry fruit and flattering spice. A summary of the aromas can be described as follows: blackberry, sour cherry, raspberry and leather. At the same time, the Tempranillo from Bodegas Enguera impresses with a silky tannin structure that ensures a delicate finish.
The Tempranillo reds from Bodegas Enguera regularly receive awards. The 2019 vintage, for example, won gold at PAR International Organic Wine Awards 2020. Bodegas Enguera, a third-generation family winery, is known for excellent, typically Spanish wines. This is also true of this single-varietal Tempranillo with its full fruit and flattering spiciness. It is impossible to imagine Spain without Tempranillo wines. It is not for nothing that it is the most important Spanish red wine variety. The name of the grape variety is derived from the Spanish word temprano, which means ‘early’. Literally translated, Tempranillo means ‘small early ripening’, because the berries are smaller and ripen a little earlier than with the Garnacha.
Bodegas Enguera was founded in 1999 by Pedro Pérez Pardo in Enguera, Spain. Pedro originally began cultivating land in the region in the 1970s, planting vineyards, olive groves and orchards. By founding his own winery, he fulfilled his dream of producing high-quality bottled wines that reflect the character of the soil and climate of the region. The family winery Bodegas Enguera is now run by the third generation and comprises around 160 hectares of vineyards, 60 hectares of which are in the limestone-rich municipality of Fontanares and 100 hectares in the municipality of Enguera, a hilly region with slate, clay and loam soils. Bodegas Enguera now produces excellent wines at top prices. At the same time, the bottle design is convincing – minimalist but stylish.
