Fig jam from Italy

The Confettura di Fichi – fig jam – from the sun-drenched south of Italy is a true taste sensation. Made from 85% fig fruits, this high-quality jam not only sweetens up any breakfast table, but also gives cheese and sausage platters a special touch. Giuseppe Sarubbi's traditional recipe stands for authentic Italian fig jam and combines the unadulterated sweetness of figs with careful production.

Mediterranean cuisine would be unthinkable without figs. Particularly in late summer, when the fig trees exude their sweet scent, anticipation grows for the harvest in September and October. Although figs are also grown in northern Italy, the best conditions for fig trees are found in the southern regions of Calabria, Campania, Puglia and Sicily, with their nutrient-rich soils and warm climate. Here the fruits ripen optimally and form the perfect basis for an excellent fig jam.

At Sarubbi, the freshness of the figs is our top priority. The fig jam is processed immediately after harvesting, which preserves the full range of flavours. At the same time, no artificial additives are used during the entire production process, which makes this fig jam a particularly natural delight.

How to use fig jam

Sarubbi's fig jam from Calabria is a delicious spread that tastes great on any bread or croissant, but also adds a fine, fruity note to savoury dishes. We have provided a few ideas for this↓:

  • Tarte flambée with goat's cream cheese and fig jam: the combination of crispy tarte flambée dough, crème fraîche, goat's cheese, fig jam, walnuts and rosemary is a true Mediterranean taste experience. Spread crème fraîche over the tarte flambée dough. Spread small heaps of fig jam (approx. 1 tsp.) over the dough. Place goat's cheese slices on the heaps. Top evenly with fresh rosemary and walnuts. And off it goes into the oven. This combination is particularly popular and gives the classic tarte flambée a refined, Mediterranean touch.
  • Bruschetta with fig jam and gorgonzola: Drizzle the slices of white bread with olive oil and toast briefly in the oven. Then top with gorgonzola and halved walnuts. Place back in the oven until the cheese has melted and the bread has a brown edge. Before serving, drizzle with a little fig jam and serve immediately. The fig jam gives the whole thing a fruity sweetness that harmoniously balances the spicy notes of the gorgonzola and the bitter note of the walnuts.
