As early as 1972, the brothers Nunziato, Domenico, Francesco and Eugenio Salamita founded the Salamita agricultural cooperative, which today includes 76 Demeter companies, with a further 34 companies working organically. The merger offers many advantages to the mostly small companies: expert advice, a farm relief service with 35 people for harvest work, joint processing work, seed purchase, preparation of documents for the controls and, last but not least, of course, joint marketing.
The members' cultivated areas are located near the picturesque Sicilian town of Barcellona in the northwest of Sicily, around the majestic Mount Etna.
