Black Azorean tea from the only tea plantation in Europe
Chá Preto dos Açores
The Azores are home to the only tea plantations in Europe. They are located in the mineral-rich "Gorreana" hills in the north of the island of São Miguel. This green island, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and a subtropical climate, offers the ideal environment for the cultivation of first-class black tea surrounded by exotic flowers. The tea gets its unique aroma from the influence of the sea and the scent of the green island. Due to the remoteness of the Azores and the special climate, tea is grown here that is free of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. The weeding is done thanks to the goats, which fortunately spurn the tea leaves.
Azorean teas are therefore 100% organic and naturally mild. Since the 18th century, they have been harvested and processed with great care and in the traditional way. The time-honoured technique and manual labour play an important role. The black Azores tea comes in a metal tin that preserves its aroma and protects it from external influences.
