The Vermador Tinto is a red wine cuvée made from Monastrell and Petit Verdot from Alicante, Spain. The coastal province of Alicante, located in central south-east Spain, is not only known for its beautiful beaches, but also for the delicious wines from the region. The Monastrell grape in particular is characteristic of this region. This grape is considered the autochthonous grape variety of south-east Spain and has an enormous ability to adapt to the extreme climatic conditions of the Mediterranean. The Monastrell grape is a rustic, upright-growing plant that ripens slowly and deliberately and produces compact grapes with round, medium-sized, thick-skinned berries.
In Vermador Tinto Alicante D.O., the Monastrell grape provides intense flavours of red forest fruits and thyme and is the foundation of the wine. The Petit Verdot grape provides the spicy notes in the background. The Vermador is strong and balanced. Vermador Tinto is particularly effective as an accompaniment to savoury and spicy dishes such as curries.
Behind Vermador Tinto is Bodegas Pinoso, which was founded as a co-operative in 1932.
Since its foundation in 1932, the Bodegas Pinoso co-operative has been an important wine producer in the coastal region of Alicante. The co-operative has 250 members and produces a considerable amount of wine from its 1200 hectares of vineyards. (5.5 million litres per year). Half of this is from purely controlled organic cultivation.
